In this section you can read all about the infrastructure at Woodlands – our curriculum, staff, policies, values and specialist areas such as Pupil Premium and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The pupils at Woodlands Nursery and Infant School enjoy rich and varied learning experiences. We follow the National Curriculum for Years 1 and 2. The Children in Nursery and Reception follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.

At the heart of our curriculum are the key skills of English (as a spoken language, read and written) and Mathematics. We teach most of our other subjects (where practical) through themed topic and project work, which teachers plan purposefully to link subjects together, thus helping to join up children’s learning.

Pupil Premium

We support all our pupils by providing high quality classroom teaching, supplemented by interventions to support vulnerable learners as and when required.

Pupil Premium is allocated to children in the following circumstances:

  • Children who are currently eligible for Free School Meals and who have been eligible at any point in the last 6 years,
  • Children who have been adopted from local authority care,
  • Children who have been looked after continuously for more than six months.

Child Protection

If you are worried about any child, whether they are part of our school “family” or not, we urge you to come and talk to us.

All of our staff are trained to handle child protection issues and have the safeguarding knowledge about what to do when they are aware of disclosures about children. So which ever member of the team you feel comfortable approaching you can be sure they will handle your concern with discretion.
